Student led conference Prep continues

Today students shared their conference notes with each other. Students showed great skill not only sharing but asking questions and demonstrating strong listening skills. This activity is very beneficial as it helps students to continue to reflect on their progress. They all are very excited about sharing with their parents.

Student Planning Week

 Cell 3 Student Engagement Intellectual Work demonstrates student ownership of their learning. Students do this planning at the start of each week to refocus their attention on what is truly important. This helps each student become self aware of what they need to accomplish as an individual.

While students were working towards discovering various ways to make 25 cents  I realized some students needed manipulative to help them solve the problem. Once I provided the needed tools and asked guiding questions students were able to solve the problem. Not all students needed the same tools to solve the problem. Students persisted for nearly 50 minutes to find all the combinations.

A few minutes each day is scheduled to reflect on he seven habits. This helps students develop a culture of excellence in our room.

CEC3 Environment and culture: This is read by a new leader each week. Most of the kids have the mission memorized. We refer to the mission if a problem arises or if we need to refocus our actions or attitudes.

Students read norms and class mission each day. This helps create a vision of the environment we want present in the classroom.

CP6 Curriculum and Pedagogy-Scaffolds the task. By providing a set procedure for students to follow when approaching  problem solving tasks students are able to persist in their effort to solve the problem.

Students analyze NWEA scores and compare them to where they should be. They analyzed their data to see if growth was made. Then students discussed strategies that would help them to continue making growth.

The reading cards help facilitate conversation relating to the story. Students spend time making predicting, connecting, and asking questions. "My prediction is that the characters are going to go to the other side of the world".

IXL is a tool that provides for a review of lesson objectives and also provides an opportunity to informally assess students. Students also have the chance to reflect on their progress towards the learning target.

Students completed their winter NWEA math test today. Data will be used to help determine which learning targets and standards are not being met.

Prepping test

Students spend 30minutes each week working to prepare for the quiz that goes along with the story. The main objective of this exercise is to teach students how to refer to the text for answers. It also provides practice skim reading and using text features such as pictures to answer questions
